Jeanne L. Allert

Jeanne is Principal and Owner of Ellipsis Partners, an Internet consulting company that specialises in Internet strategies for nonprofit organisations. Its service includes strategic planning, online marketing, education services and design support. Ms Allert is also Adjunct Professor for the Loyola College in Baltimore where she teaches a graduate course in the MBA programme on Internet Marketing.

Prior to Ellipsis, Ms Allert was Founder and President of an Internet company that built online communities and forged e-commerce relationships between the for-profit and nonprofit sectors. As Director of Program Design at the Caliber Learning Network, she integrated sound educational principles with emerging technologies to create a worldwide standard for distance learning. This innovative approach to distance learning integrated satellite broadcasting, Internet collaboration and videoconferencing to deliver a multi-sensory, multi dimensional learning experience to 45+ classrooms nationwide. The Caliber Design team was awarded 'Best Distance Learning Program for Corporate Audiences' and the company was recognised as the 'Most Significant Advance in Distance Learning' in 1998.

Ms Allert is active in the field of Distance Learning. She was founder of the Washington Metropolitan Chapter of the United States Distance Learning Association. She also owned and operated a distance learning consulting practice that served clients from the US Federal Government, Education, Corporations and national Associations. Ms Allert has taught a course on Alternate Delivery Methods to state training directors of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and several workshops on distance teaching techniques to state educators. As the Information Systems Services Director at the American Association of Retired Persons in Washington, she led the full range of I.S. services including systems analysis, strategic planning, automation studies, emerging technology research, technical training and help desk services. She was also Chairman of the Distance Learning Task Force. Before AARP, Ms Allert was the designer of technical training courseware for the US Intelligence Communities.

Ms Allert holds a Masters of Education and Bachelor of Arts degree and has served as a public school teacher, adult educator, technical trainer and industry speaker. She is an international speaker at professional conferences, local user groups and private organisations as well as regular contributor to technical and managerial publications. In addition to public presentations, Ms Allert serves as on-camera talent in support of live distance learning programmes for such prestigious entities as Microsoft, Nabisco, Johns Hopkins University, Computer Associates, and many more. In 1996 she was named 'One of the Top 100 Women in Computing' by McGraw Hill Publishers and awarded the title of Outstanding Woman of Technology in Washington. Consistent with her commitment to the non-profit sector, Ms Allert is also a member of the Advisory Board for the University of Maryland Center for Women and Information Technology and Board member for the Women’s Housing Coalition in Baltimore.
