Christopher Southan

Dr Christopher Southan is a Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology consultant in Göteborg , Sweden . He also has an honorary appointment as Special Professor of Proteomics, School of Biosciences , University of Nottingham . Before this he was a Principle Scientist at AstraZeneca R&D, Mölndal from 2004 to 2007, leading a bioinformatics team for target progression and most recently on a secondment to a cheminformatics group for work on commercial and public target-centric databases of bioactive compounds. Prior to this he held senior bionformatics positions in Oxford Glycosciences (2002 to 2003) Gemini Genomics (2001) and SmithKline Beecham (1987 – 2000). Before entering industry his posts included running the Cancer Research Campaign Protein Sequencing Facility, Research Fellow in the Charing Cross Hospital Medical School , a PhD from the Ludwig Maximillian University of Munich, an MSc in Virology from Reading University and a B.Sc.Hons. in Biochemistry from Dundee University . His interests include the informatic linkages between targets and bioactive compounds, sequence analysis of proteins, proteomics, chemical biology, comparative genomics, proteases, and protein chromatography.
