Christopher Southan
Dr Christopher Southan is a Pharmaceutical and
Biotechnology consultant in
Göteborg

. He also has an honorary appointment as Special Professor of
Proteomics,

Biosciences

Nottingham
. Before this he was a Principle Scientist at AstraZeneca
R&D, Mölndal from 2004 to 2007, leading a bioinformatics team for target
progression and most recently on a secondment to a cheminformatics group for
work on commercial and public target-centric databases of bioactive compounds.
Prior to this he held senior bionformatics positions
in Oxford Glycosciences (2002 to 2003) Gemini Genomics (2001) and SmithKline
Beecham (1987 – 2000). Before entering industry his posts included running the
Cancer Research Campaign Protein Sequencing Facility, Research Fellow in the
Charing Cross

, a PhD from the Ludwig Maximillian University of Munich, an
MSc in Virology from
Reading
University
and a B.Sc.Hons. in Biochemistry from
Dundee
University
. His interests
include the informatic linkages between targets and bioactive compounds,
sequence analysis of proteins, proteomics, chemical biology, comparative
genomics, proteases, and protein chromatography. He has over 70 publications, 45
of which are in PubMed, 28 protein database entries and 22 published sequence
