Born in Manchester, England, 55 years ago Dr Nicholas Kennedy
has been employed at Henkel since 1986. After four years leading
the molecular biology research group in Düsseldorf, he headed
the Business Information department and then the Knowledge Systems
area within the Henkel InfoCenter. Here he is responsible for
the development and deployment of knowledge relevant software.
After studying chemistry and botany he was awarded a doctorate
in biochemistry at the University of London. The first decade
of his career was characterised by a deep interest in genetic
information. After completing his thesis work Dr Kennedy worked
at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Research (Berlin) and
the World Influenza Centre in the National Institute for Medical
Research (London). In 1980 he returned to Germany to work on retroviruses
at the Institute for Toxicology in the Nuclear Research Centre
in Karlsruhe. This was followed by a post at the Hamburg gene
company BioSyntech as head of research.
The foundation stone for Kennedy's nomadic existence was laid
early, his early years having been spent in Singapore and Malaya.
The website which he now edits for his rowing club on the Rhein
provides the 'link' between his professional and private interests.
