Matthew Cockerill has been technical director of BioMed Central (www.biomedcentral.com) since it was founded in 1999. BioMed Central is a publishing house that has pioneered the model of barrier-free access to peer-reviewed research articles, while developing innovative online subscription services such as Faculty of 1000 (www.facultyof1000.com).
Prior to joining BioMed Central, he was Technical Director
at BioMedNet, a leading biological and medical community website.
In four years at BioMedNet, he was responsible for many major
projects including Evaluated MEDLINE, Trends Journals Online,
and Current Opinions Online. He began his career in the lab, working
on his doctoral research in biochemistry with Tim Hunt at the
Imperial Cancer Research Fund.
