Helen Schofield

UMIST and MIMAS

After graduating in chemistry from Manchester University, Helen Schofield worked for Derwent Publications and then the International Union of Crysatllography. She is now the Chemistry Librarian and an Honorary Lecturer in the Chemistry Department at UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology), where one of her main responsibilities is being part of the team developing and delivering a new masters course in cheminformatics. She also works partly for MIMAS (Manchester Information and Associated Services) and has responsibility for MIMAS’s training programme for UK, Irish, Danish Swedish and Finnish universities. MIMAS’s mutual interest with GlaxoSmithKline in ensuring that the most suitable databases and applications are made available to their respective user communities and that their database training programmes are effective, has led to the collaborative research presented here.
