Robert J. Massie

Robert Massie joined Chemical Abstracts Service as Director (CEO) in July 1992. CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society, is the world's leading publisher and distributor of chemical and related scientific information, with revenues in excess of $150 million.

Mr Massie has extensive information and publishing industry experience, including having served most recently as President and CEO of Gale Research, a subsidiary of the Thomson organisation, located in Detroit, Michigan. In the early and mid-1980s, Mr Massie held senior executive positions with the Torstar Corporation, the largest newspaper and book publishing company in Canada. Prior to that, he was a management consultant with McKinsey & Co in New York, where his clients included the General Electric Company and the New York Times Company. He also practised law with the firm of Covington & Burling in Washington, DC. Mr Massie holds a joint J.D./MBA degree from Columbia University, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar; he is an honours graduate of Yale College.
